On December 18, 2018, the 30th Anniversary Celebration of the Shenzhen Lawyers Association was held in the Auditorium of Shenzhen Civic Center. Leaders from the Supreme People's Court, the Ministry of Justice, the All China Lawyers Association and the relevant departments of the provinces and municipalities, as well as more than 1,000 lawyers and guests, attended the ceremony.
Zhang Xiang and Ding Yiping, lawyers from Dentons Shenzhen office, won the "Best Paper (Monograph) Award" on the ceremony. Dentons was the only law firm that had two lawyers receiving this award.
In order to celebrate its 30th anniversary and further showcase the leading individuals in the legal profession, the Shenzhen Lawyers Association (SLA) has specially organized this award ceremony to recognize prominent lawyers who have made outstanding contributions in the past 30 years. Lawyers who apply for the "Best Paper (Monograph) Award" must have more than 10 years of continuous practice and long-term commitment to a field of law, have achieved outstanding track record and a certain influence in the field, and have published a certain number of academic papers, monographs and translations that have won a number of national, provincial and ministerial awards and other recognitions. On basis of these criteria and after a strict review process, 10 winners were selected, including two Dentons lawyer, Zhang Xiang and Ding Yiping.

Mr. Zhang Xiang is a senior partner and board member at Dentons Shenzhen office. He published a monograph "Listed Companies Legal Risk Prevention and Control Practice" and hundreds of papers, and drafted the "Outline of the 13th Five-Year Plan for Shenzhen Legal Industry". He has served as the standing legal counsel for many well-known companies such as BYD and has extensive experience in solving difficult legal problems for corporate clients, and has represented many major cases and non-litigation matters that promote social progress. He is a legal practice guidance professor of Law Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and a member of the Shenzhen Reform 30 Members Forum. He won the "Shenzhen Annual Person" in 2010 and the "2017 Most Valuable Independent Director in Chinese Listed Company", and was included in the "Top Ten Concepts of Shenzhen" as an innovator.

Mr. Ding Yiping is a partner at Dentons Shenzhen office and deputy head of the Dispute Resolution practice. He published a monograph entitled "The Road to Retrial - Difficulties in Civil and Commercial Matters Retrial of the Supreme People's Court”, and wrote many papers. He specializes in major civil and commercial litigation and arbitration and has provided legal services to large enterprises such as China Merchants Group and Shenzhen Airport. Mr. Ding is also actively involved in social welfare. Since 2015, he has been a volunteer lawyer of the First Circuit Court of the Supreme People's Court. On November 28, 2017, recommended by the First Circuit Court of the Supreme People's Court, Mr. Ding was awarded the honorary title of "Outstanding Volunteer Lawyer of the First Circuit Court of the Supreme People's Court" by the SLA.
A video of the "Shenzhen Legal Industry Social Responsibility Report" was broadcasted on the event, focusing on the typical examples of Shenzhen lawyers fulfilling their social responsibilities in the past five years. Mr. Zhang was the only lawyer included for facilitating economic development. He was also included in the "40 Years of Reform and Opening up, and 40 Stories of Shenzhen Lawyers".
In the video of "Shenzhen '1+1' Legal Aid Lawyer" broadcasted at the conference, a story of Li Ronghua, a lawyer from Dentons Shenzhen office, touched the audience deeply. She overcame many difficulties to get to Shigatse, Tibet to actively provide legal aid services and resolve social contradictions in the local areas.
On the event, Dentons' element was everywhere, highlighting the outstanding achievements of our Shenzhen office since its establishment. With our lawyers being recognized by the award and touching stories of Ms. Li, this amply demonstrated that Dentons was not only a prominent example of professionalism, but also a model for fulfilling social responsibilities and providing legal aids.
