Outstanding debaters of "Lee & Li Cup" from both Taiwan and Mainland China visit Dentons

On December 5, 2018, a group of special guests, outstanding debaters of "Lee & Li Cup" from both Taiwan and Mainland China, visited Dentons Beijing office. After guiding the students around the office, representatives of Dentons, along with leaders from the Exchange Center of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, the Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Department of the All China Lawyers Association, both of which participated in the preparation of the "Lee & Li Cup", had an in-depth exchange of views with the students.

The "Lee & Li Cup" is a national collegiate moot court competition sponsored by the Organizing Committee of the Lee & Li Moot Court Competition and co-organized by the Lee and Li Foundation. As a leading international law firm dedicated to nurturing young legal talents, by hosting the exchange event, Dentons wished to provide an opportunity for these students who have not yet left the campus to exchange ideas with industry elites face to face, and help young law students learn more about the profession and familiarize with the legal industry.

At the event, Wang Lihong, director of the Board of Directors of Dentons Beijing office, introduced Dentons' global presence inside and outside China, and the close business exchanges and cooperation between Dentons Taiwan office and Beijing office and other locations under this background. From the perspective of career development, Mr. Wang also made a detailed introduction on Dentons' lawyer management system which took specialization and internationalization as the development goal, as well as our training programs for young lawyers. Zhang Wei, member of Dentons Beijing Management Committee, introduced the firm's practice group classification, the structure of the administrative support department and the services they provided.

In the interactive session, to help the students understand Dentons more intuitively, we specifically invited three Taiwanese colleagues working in the Beijing office – counsel Hong Shaorong, associate Jian Zhihong and legal secretary Fan Mengting -, to share their experience and feelings of working in Dentons with the students. The students also put forward questions regarding the legal profession, life and the future of the legal industry. On basis of their practicing experiences and personal experiences, our representatives shared their opinions on these questions with the students.

At the end of the exchange, Guo Xinhang from the Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office of the All China Lawyers Association stated that under the background of the goal of promoting the rule of law in an all-round way proposed on the 19th National Congress, as the cross-strait exchanges gradually deepened, Dentons' global legal service network and high-level service quality will play an important role in the future development of the legal industry, and he also encouraged the young talents who represented the future of the legal industry to make a difference.

In addition, Miao Jingping, deputy director of the Exchange Center of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, made an expectation on the rule of the law across the strait and the friendly relations - "Chinese dream tinted with poetry, calligraphy, painting and stamping, and cross-strait intimacy celebrated by qin, se, sheng and xiao", and hoped that law students from both side of the strait can jointly shoulder the heavy responsibility of the construction of law.
