Mr. Xiao specializes in real estate, foreign direct investment, civil and commercial litigation and arbitration.He has advised on and documented a broad range of foreign direct investment and mergers & acquisitions projects involving joint ventures or wholly foreign owned enterprises in such industries as construction and operation of infrastructure projects, real estate development, venture capital investment, and retail and franchising services, which include but are not limited to: Represented Shanghai Municipal People’s Government and Pudong New Area People’s Government in the negotiation and preparation of Shanghai Disney theme park project;Advised major North American, Singaporean and Hong Kong property developers on various real estate projects in China.


Mr. Xiao is also a seasoned litigator. His courtroom experiences include without limitation: Represented a German automotive design house in its dispute with a Chinese automobile manufacturer arising from the automobile design service contract through arbitration before China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC) and through litigation before Zhejiang Province Higher Court.Defended a Japanese MNC against a claim by a PRC listed company in excess of USD200 million before Tianjin Higher Court and PRC Supreme Court, involving issues of the fraud exception to the autonomy of documentary letters of credit. Acted for an Australian listed company to successfully dispose of a biopharmaceutical project in Shanghai that was stranded because of the PRC party’s breach, after negotiating and executing all details of the exit.


Mr. Xiao is recognized for his real estate law expertise.  He was ranked among “2011-2012 Shanghai Top Ten Young Lawyers Specializing in Real Estate Law”.
