Dentons Appointed to the Trade Remedies Panel of Ministry of Commerce of China

The Ministry of Commerce of China announced on its official website on November 1, 2018 that Dentons has won the bid for Ministry of Commerce's Candidate List of Law Firms - Sub-list for Trade Remedy, and is the only firm listed on all four packages, further demonstrating our systematic and leading professional service capabilities across the globe.

The bid was announced on July 23rd by the Ministry of Commerce, with the results revealed on October 24th following a detailed review by the bid assessment committee. On November 1st, the Ministry of Commerce officially announced the winners. Dentons Beijing office, Dentons US Region and Dentons Europe Region secured wins across the board in Domestic Law Firms, US Domestic Law Firms, EU Domestic Law Firms, and Other Country and Region Firms.

Founded in 1992, Dentons China has extensive experience in international trade remedies. Over the past decade or so, our lawyers have advised more than 100 Chinese companies on securing zero or lowest possible tariffs, or closing cases with no measures imposed to the satisfaction of the client.

Amidst China-US trade tensions the Dentons China’s international trade group has represented the China Chamber of International Commerce in addressing the 232 actions against China’s automobile and spare part industry and attended hearings in the US. On July 24 and 25 this year, this group was once again invited by the China Chamber of International Commerce to section 301 hearings in the US, and the USTR hearing in Washington on August 20 regarding the decision on whether tariffs should imposed on $200 billion of Chinese goods. During their time in the US, key group members, Cai Kaiming and Sun Lei, were interviewed by CCTV and First Finance program.

The bid was launched by the Ministry of Commerce in 2013. Law firms appointed to the Trade Remedies panel would advise Chinese government on trade remedies cases, appeals, administrative reconsideration, and judicial investigations, and provide legal opinions on changes in trade remedies policies and regulations of other countries.

Appointment to this panel is an important indicator of law firm’s level of expertise in trade remedies. This announcement is a recognition by the Chinese government of the service quality and status of a firm.
