Nine Lawyers from Dentons China Region Attend 9th National Lawyers Congress and Three Recognized Outstanding Lawyers

On March 30, 2016, the 9th National Lawyers Congress was held at the Great Hall of the People, Beijing. The Congress was attended by party and government leaders, including Meng Jianzhu, Secretary of Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China, Guo Shengkun, State Councilor and Minister of Public Security, Zhou Qiang, President of the Supreme People’s Court of China, Cao Jianming, Procurator-General of the Supreme People’s Procuratorate of the People’s Republic of China, and Wu Aiying, Minister of Justice of the People’s Republic of China, as well as 354 representative lawyers.

It’s reported that currently China has more than 297,000 practicing lawyers and over 24,000 law firms. In his important speech, Meng pointed out that from 2011-2014, Chinese lawyers had helped resolve over 10 million lawsuits and over 3 million non-contentious matters, which altogether generated more than 200 billion yuan worth of revenue and contributed significantly to our society and economy.

Nine lawyers from Dentons China Region were present at the Congress, including Chen Youkun, head of the Standing Committee of Dentons Chongqing office, Gu Yingbin, head of Dentons Nantong office, Li Anhua, head of Dentons Nanning office, Li Xuyan, head of Dentons Zhengzhou office, Ma Wei, head of Dentons Kunming office, Sun Changjiang, head of Dentons Shenyang office, Wang Zhe, head of Dentons Changchun office, Xu Jun, head of the Supervising Committee of Dentons Fuzhou office, and Xia Jingjing, associate from Dentons Hangzhou office. Six of them were elected council members of the Congress. At the opening session, a prize-awarding ceremony was held to recognize outstanding law firms and lawyers in China. Mao Ying, head of Dentons Changsha office, Li Anhua, head of Dentons Nanning office, and Chen Feng, executive head of Dentons Shanghai office were honored “Outstanding Lawyers in China”.
 
The Congress marks an honorable moment for Dentons China Region, with nine attendees (including six elected council members) and three honorees coming from the same firm, which is unprecedented in China’s legal profession.
