On February 12, 2015, Chambers and Partners’ “Asia-Pacific Guide 2015” was published. 520 Chinese outstanding lawyers in 24 areas of law were presented in the guide. It was reported that this guide had covered a majority of top Chinese lawyers in all relevant areas of law.
Under the category of “Intellectual Property: Litigation (PRC Firms) – China”, 22 intellectual property lawyers from 18 PRC law firms were listed and classified into six sub-categories, including Eminent practitioner, Band 1, Band 2, Band 3, Band 4, and Up and coming. Tao Xinliang, head of the intellectual property practice of Dacheng’s Shanghai office, was named an “Eminent practitioner”.
Tao was also named one of the “Top 15 Chinese Litigators 2015” by “Asian Legal Business”, an annual award to honor the best lawyers in China in the fields of civil, commercial and criminal litigation. He was highly recommended by peers in Dacheng to take part in the selection.
Tao had received a number of important awards previously in the area of intellectual property. In early 2013, he was named as one of the “2012 Most Influential IP Figures in China” by State Intellectual Property Office, State Administration of Industry and Commerce, and National Copyright Administration. In early 2014, he was awarded “2013 Most Influential People in the Area of Intellectual Property” by “China Intellectual Property” magazine and “China Daily”. The IP practice of the Shanghai office, co-led by Mr. Tao, Mr. Shang Jiangang and Mr. Yu Li was recently named an “Outstanding IP Litigation Team in China”. Tao was re-appointed by State Intellectual Property Office as member of the second national IP expert consultation committee and is serving another term as vice president of Intellectual Property Law Association of China.
