Peng Xuefeng Attends 3rd Plenary Session of the 12th CPPCC National Committee and Delivers Keynote Speech

On October 27-29, 2014, Peng Xuefeng, member of the standing committee of CPPCC and chairman of Dacheng, attended the 3rd plenary session of the 12th CPPCC National Committee and delivered a keynote speech titled “Boost the Development of China’s Legal Profession and Assist in the Advancement of the Rule of Law”.

With the adoption of “Decision of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China on Comprehensively Advancing the Rule of Law” at the 4th plenary session of the 18th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China which ended just a few days ago, Peng says, the 4th plenary session ushers in a new era of “comprehensively advancing the rule of law” in which lawyers have important roles to play. He suggests that in implementing decisions made at the plenary session, we should fully recognize the value of lawyers, create a better environment for their practice of law, pave way for the growth of the legal profession and face up to existing problems in the profession. By doing this, their role will be fully tapped to assist in the advancement of the rule of law in China.

Peng’s speech was echoed by participating leaders and standing committee members. Peng also had face-to-face interaction with Meng Jianzhu, member of the Politburo of CPC Central Committee and secretary of the Committee of Political and Legislative Affairs, on issues of judicial reform.
