In January 2014, a team led by Dacheng senior partner Liu Chi was retained by Hunan Broadcasting System (“HBS”), China’s second largest television network after China Central Television (“CCTV”), to act as standing legal counsel on matters such as overseas M&A, foreign TV format purchasing negotiations, program production thereof and international dispute resolution.
On April 25, Mr. Liu and attorney Wang Xiaobin were invited by HBS to give a training session to key management personnel on copyright management strategies, practice and risk control in China’s major film and television groups, as part of HBS’s celebration of the imminent World Intellectual Property Day. The training session, addressed to deputy heads of HBS, executive producers of satellite TV programs, key producers and personnel responsible for copyright matters, focused on aspects such as strategic planning over copyright, copyright trading, development, risk control and other practice issues. The session was followed by a heated discussion of a series of key issues in connection with copyright management between the speakers and attendees.
Mr. Liu is licensed to practice law in both China and New York State, with a focus on entertainment and media. He had previously acted for HBS on foreign-related matters in 2012 and 2013. His performance won unanimous recognition from the management team of the television network.
