Dentons signs the United Nations Women’s Empowerment Principles

As a law firm committed to its business strategy of Inclusion and Diversity to better serve its clients, Dentons has signed the global United Nations Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs). This recognizes the dedication of the world’s largest law firm to advance gender equality and women’s empowerment in the workplace, marketplace and community.

The Firm is also a long-term Pro Bono partner with UN Women, in 2019 providing more than 900 hours of Pro Bono service through the organization. With several major projects currently underway, Dentons’ teams work to promote justice for women and girls in the 189 communities we serve around the world.

“We believe it is our responsibility to lead the way in driving change in the legal profession and in the communities we serve around the world. Gender parity requires an unwavering commitment to amplifying women’s voices and we stand in support of the Women's Empowerment Principles,” said Elliott Portnoy, Dentons Global CEO. “Our Pro Bono work spans the globe in our unwavering commitment to having a positive impact, especially during these challenging times which are disproportionately affecting the most vulnerable members of society.”

The team’s recent work includes advising UN Women on legislation to criminalize violence against women in Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, preparing policy templates for use by the thousands of WEPs signatories in relation to gender based violence, parental leave and flexible working and conducting comparative legal research into gender responsive procurement to support local advocacy work. Dentons also provides support to the General Counsels Office of UN Women with a range of practical legal matters.
