Three Dentons lawyers appointed as members of Beijing Lawyers Association's operational steering group on representing suspected triad-related or evil-forces-related cases

On April 12, Beijing Lawyers Association ("BLA") released the "Notice on the Establishment of Beijing Lawyers Association's Leading Group and Operational Steering Group on Representing Suspected Triad-related or Evil Forces-related Cases" on its official website. Three lawyers from Dentons Beijing office were selected as members of the operational steering group.

According to the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Justice's "Work Program for the Municipal Judicial and Administrative System's Special Campaign of Cracking down on Evil Forces", the leading group and the operational steering group were established, so as to implement the Central Government's announcement on "strictly cracking down on evil forces", strengthen the operational guidance on lawyers participating in this campaign and help lawyers better play their role in representing triad-related and evil forces-related cases.

The leading group consists of relevant leaders from the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Justice and the BLA, and the operational steering group is composed of more than 30 lawyers, including Dentons Beijing senior partners Han Jiayi, Ma Shuning and Xu Ping.

Among them, Mr. Han, head of the Criminal Procedure Committee of the BLA, is appointed as the team leader; while Mr. Ma and Mr. Xu, committee member of the Criminal Committee of BLA and the Criminal Procedure Committee of the BLA respectively, are appointed as team members.

The leading group and the operational steering group's responsibilities include compiling laws, regulations and cases concerning triad-related crimes, providing trainings on such cases' representation, assisting in defending lawyers' rights in advising on triad-related cases, and observing (supervising) lawyers in court hearings.
