Among the four defendants in this case, Wang was listed as the second-mentioned defendant. Wang’s family entrusted attorneys Leng Yunsong and Liu Wan to represent Wang. The attorneys, after a careful analysis, believed Wang’s behavior did not constitute a criminal defense. They communicated this point to the police and the prosecutor and suggested the police revoke coercive measures and the prosecutor dismiss its arrest order against Wang. However, their opinion was rejected by both the police and the prosecutor. Wang was arrested and accused of robbery. While the prosecutor was looking into the case, Leng Yunsong and Liu Wan again communicated with the prosecutor to the effect that the prosecutor charged Wang of intentional injury instead of robbery and opening a gambling house. The attorneys once again thought this accusation not appropriate. In the end, the prosecutor decided to charge Wang of robbery and opening a gambling house and brought the case to court.
To argue for Wang, Leng Yunsong and Liu Wan prepared a number of defense strategies beforehand. During the trial, they did what they could by applying various defense skills and used expertly relevant law theories.
During the eight months in which seven court sessions were opened, the attorneys argued persistently that Wang’s behavior did not constitute criminal defense. Their arguments were eventually adopted by the court, with Wang becoming the only one not found guilty among the four defendants. The prosecutor gave up protestation against the decision. It was learned that the Intermediate People’s Court of Chengdu would have a press release over the case recently.
