The Third General Assembly of Beijing Chaoyang Lawyers Association took place in Beijing on September 15 and 16, 2018, where Ma Jiangtao, senior partner from Dentons Beijing office, was elected as the vice-chair.

The legal industry in Chaoyang took off in 1980. The Beijing Chaoyang Lawyers Association was established at the end of 2010. After 8 years of hard work, the association has developed into the biggest grass root lawyer organization in China. As of April 2018, Chaoyang district boasts 14,375 lawyers, accounting for 53.4% of the entire lawyer headcount in Beijing, while 938 law firms, 43.9% of the total number in Beijing, are based out of Chaoyang.

More than 200 newly elected lawyer representatives attended the General Assembly, 10 of whom are from Dentons: Ma Jiangtao, Ping Yunwang, Raymond Zhu, Sun Yifei, Yin Yinghui, Qing Song, Yuan Huazhi, Dun Mingyue, Gao Meili and Tang Huan. In addition, Wang Jun, head of Dentons Beijing’s Management Committee, was also invited to the meeting as a special guest.

New leadership was elected in the afternoon of September 16. Ma Jiangtao was re-elected as the vice-chair. He said although he had practiced for more than 24 years, he still is true to his passion and principle. In this new role, he will stay grounded, and make his contribution to the development of the legal profession in Chaoyang. 

The Assembly also honored law firms and lawyers which have scored outstanding performance from 2015 to 2018. Li Shoushuang, Gao Meili and Wu Libei received the “Outstanding Lawyer Award”, and Wang Dengshan was recognized for his contribution to the industry.
